Handwrite in Thai, using Google Handwrite tools
Many times when you’re typing something in Thai on your computer or smartphone, you might have wished you could write it out instead, as if you had a pen and paper in hand. Now, you can do just that with Google tools which makes finding whatever you’re looking just a little easier. Starting today, you can handwrite Thai when you’re searching for something on Google using your smartphone, or anywhere on the Web using a Chrome extension.
Here’s how you can start scribbling away online using Google’s input tools in Thai:
Mobile Web Search
Unlike searching on a desktop or laptop computer, when you're searching on a touch-screen mobile device it’s often inconvenient to type on such a small screen - and especially in when you’re typing in Thai, it can be frustrating when you’re trying to find the right vowel or tone symbol on small screens with big thumbs.
Now you can conveniently write your search queries on Google using Google Handwrite for web search on Android and iOS mobile phones and tablets. Handwrite enables you to search by just writing letters with your finger or stylus anywhere on your device’s screen—there’s no keyboard that covers half of the screen and no need for typing.
Getting started is easy: go to google.co.th in your mobile browser, tap on “Settings” at the bottom of the screen and enable “Handwrite.”
On tablets, the Search settings are available as an option behind the gear icon. Once you've saved the setting, you may need to refresh the homepage to see the feature and get started with Google Handwrite.
Once the feature is enabled, tap the Handwrite icon on the bottom right corner of your screen to activate the writing surface. Write a few letters and you’ll see autocomplete options appear below the search box. If one of the options is what you’re looking for, just tap it to search.
For longer queries, you can continue writing and use the arrows next to the auto-completions to move the right one into the search box. You can write anywhere, therefore you don’t have to look back and forth repeatedly from the keyboard to the search box.
You can write more than one character at a time on a line, which makes it much faster and easier to enter your search. For more tips and tricks on how to use Handwrite, see our Help Center. To make accessing google.co.th faster, be sure to bookmark it and add it to your home screen.
We designed Handwrite to complement rather than replace typing: with the feature enabled, you can still use the keyboard at any time by tapping on the search box. Handwrite is experimental, and works better in some browsers than others—on Android, it works best in Chrome. Handwrite is enabled for Android 2.3+ phones, Android 4.0+ tablets and for iOS5+ devices — in over 30 languages.
Chrome Extension
Handwrite Thai script into any site on the web using the handy Google Input Tools Chrome Extension. To find and install the Extension, simply follow these instructions:
Go to the Chrome Webstore and search for “input tools”; or do a Google search for “Google input tools”
-
After installation, click on the icon that appears in your Chrome toolbar. Go to “Extension options” to selectThai - ไทย
Now that you have installed this Chrome extension, whenever you activate this your computer’s trackpad will turn into a writing pad, so you can write Thai script using freehand. Then the tool will recognize your handwriting and convert it to text, which can be inserted into text fields on any website.
So no matter what kind of handwriting you have, Google can help you find exactly what you’re looking for — so here’s to Handwrite in Thai, we hope you have as much fun using it as we did creating it!
