ฟีเจอร์ป้องกันกลโกงของ Google ช่วยบล็อกความพยายามในการติดตั้งแอปอันตราย 4.8 ล้านครั้งบนอุปกรณ์กว่า 1 ล้านเครื่องในไทย

วันนี้ Google ร่วมกับ กระทรวงดิจิทัลเพื่อเศรษฐกิจและสังคม (ดีอี) เผยผลลัพธ์ของโครงการความร่วมมือในการปกป้องคนไทยจากกลโกงออนไลน์ที่หลอกให้ติดตั้งมัลแวร์ด้วยฟีเจอร์ป้องกันกลโกงใหม่ใน Google Play Protect ที่ได้เริ่มนำร่องการใช้งานในประเทศไทยไปเมื่อเดือนเมษายนที่ผ่านมา โดยตั้งแต่ที่เริ่มเปิดให้ใช้งาน ฟีเจอร์ดังกล่าวได้ช่วยบล็อกความพยายามในการติดตั้งแอปที่มีความเสี่ยงไปแล้วกว่า 4.8 ล้านครั้งบนอุปกรณ์ Android กว่า 1 ล้านเครื่อง บล็อกแอปไปกว่า 41,000 รายการ ซึ่งรวมถึงแอปปลอมที่แอบอ้างเป็นแอปรับส่งข้อความ แอปเกม และแอปอีคอมเมิร์ซยอดนิยม

ฟีเจอร์ความปลอดภัยใหม่ใน Google Play Protect ถูกออกแบบมาเพื่อช่วยปกป้องผู้ใช้อุปกรณ์ Android จากกลลวงต่างๆ ได้ดียิ่งขึ้นด้วยการบล็อกการติดตั้งแอปที่อาจมีความเสี่ยงซึ่งโหลดมาจากแหล่งที่มาที่ไม่รู้จักบนอินเทอร์เน็ต (เช่น เว็บเบราว์เซอร์ แอปรับส่งข้อความ หรือโปรแกรมจัดการไฟล์) ที่อาจใช้สิทธิ์เข้าถึงข้อมูลละเอียดอ่อน ซึ่งมักจะถูกนำไปใช้ในกลโกงทางการเงิน

สำหรับกลไกการทำงานของฟีเจอร์ความปลอดภัยใหม่ใน Google Play Protect นั้น หากผู้ใช้พยายามติดตั้งแอปที่อาจมีความเสี่ยงจากแหล่งที่มาที่ไม่รู้จักบนอินเทอร์เน็ตที่อาจใช้สิทธิ์เข้าถึงข้อมูลละเอียดอ่อน ซึ่งมักจะถูกนำไปใช้ในกลโกงทางการเงิน Google Play Protect จะบล็อกการติดตั้งโดยอัตโนมัติ โดยจะตรวจสอบสิทธิ์ของแอปแบบเรียลไทม์ โดยเฉพาะสิทธิ์ 4 รายการนี้ ซึ่งได้แก่ การรับ SMS (RECEIVE_SMS) การอ่าน SMS (READ_SMS) การฟังการแจ้งเตือน (BIND_Notifications) และการช่วยเหลือพิเศษ (Accessibility) มิจฉาชีพมักจะใช้สิทธิ์เหล่านี้เพื่อดักจับรหัสผ่านแบบใช้ครั้งเดียว (One-time Password หรือ OTP) ที่ส่งมาทาง SMS หรือการแจ้งเตือน รวมทั้งแอบส่องเนื้อหาบนหน้าจอของผู้ใช้ เมื่อผู้ใช้พยายามติดตั้งแอปที่อาจมีความเสี่ยงจากแหล่งที่มาที่ไม่รู้จักบนอินเทอร์เน็ต และมีการขอใช้สิทธิ์เหล่านี้ Google Play Protect จะบล็อกการติดตั้งโดยอัตโนมัติ พร้อมแสดงคำอธิบายให้ผู้ใช้ทราบ

4.8 million high-risk app installation attempts on over 1 million devices in Thailand blocked by Google’s anti-scam feature

Google and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) jointly announced today that a new anti-scam feature in Google Play Protect, piloted in Thailand earlier this year, has yielded significant results in protecting Thais against malware scams. Since its rollout in April, the feature has successfully blocked over 4.8 million installation attempts of potentially-malicious apps on over 1 million Android devices in Thailand. This included more than 41,000 unique apps, including many that impersonated popular messaging, gaming, and e-commerce apps.

This enhanced Google Play Protect feature is designed as an additional layer of protection for Android users against fraud and scams, by preventing the installation or sideloading of apps that may use sensitive permissions frequently abused for financial fraud when the user attempts to install the app from an Internet-sideloading source (web browsers, messaging apps or file managers).

The progress we have made with this enhanced fraud protection feature within Google Play Protect is encouraging, but we must stay vigilant. Scammers continually evolve their tactics, underscoring the need for proactive consumer protection. We’re committed to developing innovative solutions to ensure a safe, positive experience for all Android users. Collaboration with key partners like the Thai government and developers is essential to building a secure and informed mobile ecosystem that will enable online safety for all.

With the rise in mobile scams in Thailand, we’re continually looking at new ways and strengthening our platforms to help Thais better defend against these evolving threats. We’re grateful for MDES’ support to address this nationwide issue together. This commitment is crucial with Thailand seeing an uptick of online scams and fraud in recent years. While public awareness of fraud has increased in the previous year, an alarming 7 in 10 of online users in Thailand still fell victim to online scams, despite expressing confidence in their ability to spot and avoid them.*

This enhanced fraud protection works like this: It will analyze and automatically block the installation of apps that may use sensitive permissions frequently abused for financial fraud when the user attempts to install the app from an Internet-sideloading source (web browsers, messaging apps or file managers). This enhancement will inspect the permissions the app declared in real-time and specifically look for four permission requests: RECEIVE_SMS, READ_SMS, BIND_Notifications, and Accessibility. These permissions are frequently abused by fraudsters to intercept one-time passwords via SMS or notifications, as well as spy on screen content. When a user in Thailand attempts to install an app from an Internet-sideloading source and any of these four permissions are declared, Google Play Protect will automatically block the installation with an explanation to the user.
